Project proposals
Omnifi Foundation supports digital technology projects that align with our values. If you have an idea for ethical, open source software that could benefit from our support, we want to hear about it.
What we look for
Projects we support share common characteristics:
- Open source — Code is publicly available under an approved open source license
- Ethical foundation — Respects privacy, prioritizes accessibility, avoids exploitative patterns
- Clear purpose — Solves a real problem or addresses a genuine need
- Sustainable approach — Designed for long-term viability, not just short-term gains
Project lifecycle
Projects move through stages as they develop:
Proposed
Initial ideas under consideration. At this stage, we’re evaluating fit with our mission and discussing scope with proposers.
Incubating
Active development with foundation support. Incubating projects receive mentorship, infrastructure, and community resources as they grow.
Graduated
Mature projects that have established themselves. These continue under the foundation umbrella with greater autonomy.
Archived
Projects that have completed their purpose or been superseded. Code remains available for reference and potential revival.
Sunset
Projects being phased out. We provide clear timelines and migration paths when sunsetting projects.
How to propose a project
We accept proposals from anyone—you don’t need to be a member to suggest an idea.
A good proposal includes:
- Description of what the project does and why it matters
- How it aligns with foundation values
- Current state (new idea, existing code, established project seeking a home)
- What kind of support you’re looking for
- Who would work on it
